Brøchner Hotels
Brøchner Hotels is a chain of 5 boutique hotels in central Copenhagen and a hostel in Aarhus. Brøchner Hotels stand for creating extraordinary experiences for their guests, partners, and employees, by creating different hotels and reinventing a hotel stay – with great care and attention. A stay is not just a room or a bed. It is a passion. It is warmth, generosity, friends, family, and colleagues. It is to feel welcome. Everyone, hotel guests or not, can “check in” at Brøchner. It is a place to meet. Where you can come and go, but also where you can linger. There is always a special spot for a cocktail in the bar, a good cup of coffee in the lobby, or for some breakfast to start off the day. Equally important is that you always experience the warmth of the service from everyone you meet from the Brøchner team.
The architecture of the building, the local area, and the design are a great part of their hotel concepts. Every hotel has their unique story in every detail. The location of the hotels are central, so you find yourself in the middle of the city, surrounded by shops, restaurants, museums and bars. The heart and soul of the hotels are always going to be the building it is situated in. Here every brick has a story to tell. Those stories are captured in the design of the hotel itself – always with a special touch of creativity and innovative features. However, the real magic happens in the atmosphere of the hotels. When you walk through the door a very special experience awaits you. Is this really a reception? Is it a lobby or a bar? Well, it is all three in one! The lobby is not really a lobby. It is a cool social area with a pinch of "international vibe" and a dash of cozy atmosphere that make you want to stay in.
A responsible way of running hotels is part of the mission at Brøchner Hotels. It is essential to address the challenges of today, so there is still a tomorrow to create extraordinary experiences. At Brøchner Hotels, they are committed to act responsibly towards the climate and take care of the people around us - and inspire their guests to do so as well.
Brøchner Hotels´ sustainability strategy is in its essence based on three core values: Responsibility, Passion and Care. To succeed with this, these values are linked to three overall focus areas: People, Product, and Planet.
People
Passion for the local community: Brøchner Hotels are passionate about people, including those in the local communities. That is why Brøchner Hotels are collaborating with shelters in Copenhagen, where we donate excess products from our hotels. That involves excess products such as soap and shampoo, as well as donations of furniture and inventory to vulnerable and homeless citizens who need to re-establish themselves in a new home. Twice a year, clothing collections are hosted for the coming season from neighbours, guests, and colleagues - all donated to people in the city’s shelters. The local network and prime locations are used to create value for others.
Product
The team: 'Well-being' is central in Brøchner Hotels´ approach to running a business. It is important that everyone knows, sees, and feels their values. New colleagues are introduced to the company and values through the BRØCHNER ACADEMY. There is also BRØCHNER ALUMNI, a community where current and former colleagues meet up.
Planet
Supplier code of conduct: Through the Supplier Code of Conduct, demands are placed on all suppliers to comply with international conventions, environmental legislations, labor laws and one of the requirements is that suppliers work with sustainability themselves.
Food waste reduction: The goal is a responsible consumption of our resources. This includes reducing food waste. Food waste is minimized by serving portion sized, through table ware sizes, optimized purchasing and recycling. Consumption per guest is measured and purchases and operations are optimized accordingly.
Phasing out disposable plastics: All disposable plastics and disposable packaging will be phased out by 2022.
Organic Breakfast: 90-100% Of the breakfast 'Good Morning. Organic!’ is organic. That will also be the case in the future. Fruit and vegetables served are seasonally relevant and meat makes up less than 10% of the breakfast. You will always find freshly baked bread, breakfast cereal, seasonal fruits, delicious juices, smoothies and much more.
To support and ensure the strategy and actions in a global context, the three focus areas have been connected to three of UN´s Sustainable Development Goals: #11: Sustainable Cities & Communities, #3: Good Health and Well-Being, and #12: Responsible Consumption & Production. The three goals are chosen based on Brøchner´s strengths - and future challenges. This results in the following actions:
Renewable Energy: All electricity consumption in the hotels and hostels is covered by 100% environmentally certified wind energy, it is renewable and CO2 neutral energy produced by Danish wind power.
Greenkey: Brøchner Hotels are part of the international environmental certification Green Key, which means they live up to strict environmental requirements and energy improvements.
Reduced Energy Consumption: The goal is to reduce electricity, water and heat consumption and by 2025 a reduction in total energy consumption by another 5-7%.
Another fun thing to mention is Brøchner´s wine hour. Every day between 17 and 18 all hotels offer a glass of red, white or port wine for all guests. There’s also something else worth knowing: you can enjoy Wine Hour at all hotels - it does not have to be the hotel you are staying at. Each hotel has a unique atmosphere, so why not discover them all? Hotel Ottilia, Hotel Danmark, Hotel SP34, Hotel Astoria and Avenue Hotel Copenhagen.
