Barceló La Bobadilla hotel can be found in the Sierra de la Loja, in between Granada, Sevilla and Cordoba in Andalucia, Spain. Each room is unique, combining stone floors, fine wood and different styles of marble baths in Arabic style. La Bobadilla is pioneering sustainability by being the first luxury hotel to install a biomass plant where olive stones from the olive grove are used for combustion. The use of eco-friendly, chemical-free products and detergents in cleaning processes is another initiative that the hotel has put in place. At the Spa & Wellness center, water is heated thanks to the biomass plant and the treatments offered are limited to the use of 100% natural ingredients, with organic and bio-active properties certified by ECOCERT.

4. Mas Salagros EcoResort, Vallromanas, Spain

Mas Salagros Ecoresort, the first 100% eco-friendly EcoResort on the peninsula, is located in Vallromanes in a nature reserve in Catalonia. With views of the Parc de la Serralada Litoral and its 100% sustainable operation, Mas Salagros is a unique place.
Organic Mediterranean cuisine, made with seasonal produce, is served and the EcoResort features a thermal bath circuit managed by the international firm AIRE Ancient Baths Vallromanes.

Mas Salagros has been awarded the Green Globe certification, the highest standard for sustainability in the world in the hospitality industry. All the buildings in the complex were built facing south to make the most of natural lighting, especially during the winter. The biomass boiler is the main source of heating: it is fueled by wood chips from sustainably managed forests in Catalonia, which helps to reduce CO2 emissions. The resort also counts with 250 m2 of solar panels, offering energy savings of 15%. Finally, low-energy LEDs and warm colors are used to ensure the minimum environmental impact. The Resort was decorated using fully restored, sustainable materials. The beds in all the bedrooms are made by hand, and textiles like pillows, covers, quilts and towels are also organic in origin.
