Sexy Fish
Sexy Fish is an Asian restaurant and bar in the upmarket Mayfair district, located on the corner of Berkeley Square. At Sexy Fish Japanese-inspired sushi, sashimi, seafood, fish and meat cooked on a Robata grill are served. The venue is designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and decorated with art (fish-shaped lamps, mermaid statues) by Damien Hirst, Frank Gehry and Michael Roberts. Its look and feel is mid-century glamour and kitschy opulence. The restaurant and bar are open seven days a week, with a resident DJ daily.
Chef Bjoern Weissgerber is a true master of his art. A perfectionist, this eccentric German-Swede has trained with some of the greats in the industry. He grew up in his father’s restaurant (his first major influence) and went on to train with Alfons Schuhbeck, famed chef Eckart Witzigmann, Ferran Adrià at El Bulli and the hugely influential Rainer Becker. Awarded a Michelin star at 27 when he was running Ca’s Puers in Mallorca in 2002, Bjoern’s experience is vast, diverse and led him to Sexy Fish. As a man who loves to eat, he believes in creating healthy food that tastes good and looks Sexy. He strives for balance and perfection in his flavors, textures and ingredients.
A private dining space, The Coral Reef Room, is located on the lower ground floor and houses two of the largest live coral reef tanks in the world. The designers have put together a collection of materials and colors that capture the essence of the sea. The room is perfect for lunch or dinner celebrations to up to 48 guests on round tables, 30 on one table, and can accommodate up to 60 guests for a canapé reception. The venue is ideal for large group dining whether for private or corporate events. There is a custom-built bar, with an off-white veined marble top and antique brass detailing, which has an additional six seats – perfect for after-dinner cocktails and digestifs, especially for birthday parties. The Coral Reef Room has a private cloakroom and lift access is available.
The bar, which is open until late, holds the world’s biggest Japanese whisky collection (420 bottles and counting) and offers a cocktail list with both classic and inventive cocktails. This menu is presented in celebration of The 2018 Sexy Fish World Tour. The Sexy Fish bar team visited 16 of the world’s most exclusive bars across four continents, spanning nine months, for one night only. Each of the drinks on the menu are directly inspired by their travels. When you feel like having some food at the bar, don’t worry because the full Sexy Fish A La Carte menu is available for lunch or dinner in the bar. Sexy Fish recently launched its own lager that goes perfectly with the seafood on the menu, and a Sexy Fish whisky. The whisky comes from the legendary and highly sought-after distillery Chichibu, and has an alcohol percentage of 60.2%. Aged in Chassagne-Montrachet pinot noir casks for six years, you can taste the whisky’s notes of pink peppercorn, strawberry and coffee. The bespoke label incorporates the flow of Frank Gehry's fish lamps and combines the coral reef room into the overall design. The single cask bottling has produced 254 bottles and is available exclusively for Sexy Fish customers.
Sustainability is hugely important to Sexy Fish and they strive to encourage the conversation about sustainability in the hospital industry. Sexy Fish works closely with Fish2Fork (a restaurant guide with restaurants that serve sustainable fish) and Marine Stewardship Council to make sure their fish is ethically sourced and MCS approved. Sexy Fish´s bar uses no perishables in its cocktails. Citrus, herbs and garnishes (which are used once and thrown away) are replaced with in-house produced distillates, cordials, syrups and shrubs to flavor cocktails. Straws are biodegradable and are only provided upon request or you can purchase a Sexy Fish branded reusable metal straw.
